Yes! We have excellent wheels on our carts and dogs plough through all types of terrain in the Rear Support Wheelchairs. Our wheels allow them to go where they want to go!

Please note, the Full Support Wheelchairs do have caster wheels on the front, so they will be a bit more limited in the types of terrain the carts can be used on.

Not a standard litter box with a high lip around the edge. Many of our clients will make up a special litter box with a small lip around the exterior so wheels can run up and over it.

We never recommend leaving a pet alone in a cart.

Downstairs, yes. They are able to go down two or three shallow steps. Upstairs, not without some additional help. Every K9 Cart comes with a back bar which acts as a handle to help your pet up a step or two. There are also many excellent ramps on the market to assist your pet.

To keep the spine and limbs in alignment, and for possible return to mobility, we suggest placing a young animal in a cart as soon as it has problems. Very often deformities can occur in growing animals.

We are happy to work with you in regard to price for a growing pet. Please just Contact Us for further information.

No, our carts are well padded and balanced. If your pet does get a sore, the cart is not fitted properly. Please send us photos of your pet in its cart for our evaluation and keep your pet out of its cart until we call you with advice.

Absolutely not! Pets do not become dependent on their carts. If a pet regains mobility, its natural inclination is to walk on its own two legs. If you have received information from your vet or health professional that is confusing in regard to wheelchairs; please just contact us with your questions.

Small pets, yes. Large pets can use their cart indoors, if you have enough room within your home. Please remember that the wheels of the cart extend out beyond the legs and body, so in confined areas indoors; large carts are not normally recommended.

Small pets take only moments to lift in and out of carts. You will need to lift the rear of your pet and slip its legs down through the leg ring supports, then fasten a strap over the shoulders. With larger pets, in a Rear Support Wheelchair, it may be a bit harder depending on the weight of your pet, your strength, and how much your pet is inclined to wiggle around. Your pet will soon realize the benefits of the cart and will cooperate with you as it begins to look forward to running around in its new set of wheels!

Very large pets in Fully Supportive Wheelchairs normally take two people to lift in and out.

Most pets take to carts immediately. We suggest you leash walk your pet in its cart, slowly at first, until it becomes adjusted to the feel of the cart. If you have a pet that has been down for some time it may take longer as your pet has become used to dragging itself around and now, suddenly, it can run again. If you have a nervous pet, a tiny dog, or a cat, start it out indoors, on a carpet, where the wheels will not make a noise. Call if you have any questions, we’ll be glad to help.

Yes. All pets improve with use of our pet wheelchairs. Much depends on the medical condition of your pet. Some pets gain only reflexive action, some return to ataxic walking, and many will return to full function. Please see Rehabilitation for more details.

Most Common Questions

Dog and cat wheelchairs, with completed orders (owner information, pet information, payment, etc.), normally take 1 – 3 working days to design and build, plus FedEx or Postal Service transit time. Transit time varies with the shipping method chosen. Most of our cart orders are shipped within 1 – 3 working days. Accessory orders will normally ship the same day or next day. One of a kind custom carts will take longer depending on the case.

Absolutely. Pets, both male and female, can urinate and defecate while in a K9 Cart. The support system is designed to allow pets to urinate and defecate freely while in the cart. The support system is flexible and pets will have the sensation of squatting down while still being supported by the cart. The leg ring support system is even adjustable, so you can adjust the gap given for elimination to take place.

Smaller, short pets like Corgis, Dachshunds, and similar breeds can lie down while in the cart. We do recommend a thick bed be made available to your dog, so they can walk up onto the bed with the front end and lie down, which will keep the height of the front and rear equal. Larger breeds use the carts just for exercise, and do need to be taken out to rest.

If your pet has strong forelimb strength, a Rear Support Dog Wheelchair is recommended. If your pet has moderate forelimb strength, the Full Support Dog Wheelchair is recommended. And, if your pet has minimal or no forelimb strength, a Full Support Wheelchair is recommended. Often, when weakness starts in the front legs, it signals a progressively worsening condition and your pet may be a better candidate for a Full Support Wheelchair. Please see Evaluating Your Pet.

There are a number of factors to consider before deciding whether or not your pet is a good candidate for a cart. As well as considering your pets overall health and any medical conditions they may have, you will also want to look at its forelimb strength. Forelimb strength is very important. Please see Evaluate My Pet for more details.
