Considerations & Exceptions

TOTAL WEIGHT

In most cases, your dog's total weight will determine what size they need. Tip: If your dog's weight is between sizes, we recommend sizing down.

AGE/CONDITION

For older dogs that may be struggling with atrophy or degenerative hind quarters, sizing down the harness rear may be needed to achieve an optimal fit. Please explore our Mix & Match option. Tip: Consider where your dog's total weight falls within a size range. If your dog weighs at the lower end, a smaller rear harness might help-a 55lb dog with a degenerative hind may benefit from a small size rear, while a 75lb dog with similar build would do well with a full medium.

BREED 

Occasionally, some barrel-chested breeds may require a larger harness front in order to achieve an optimal fit. If your barrel-chested dog's total weight is between sizes, consider our Mix & Match option-size up the front and size down the rear.

For 20% of male dogs, the tip of the penis starts further back between their hind legs.

The U-Band provides clearance for male dogs who may be hindered from urinating by the conventional version.

If the tip of your dog's penis is not visible from a side view (see diagram), a U-Band is recommended. Please contact us if you are unsure or require assistance.

Do I need the U-Band for my male dog?

For most male dogs, the conventional belly band fits in front of the hind legs, behind the penis.

On about 20 percent of male dogs, the tip of their penis starts farther back between their legs. The U-band shape provides an easy opening so they can urinate freely.

Good helper!

We bought the Large harness for our 86# German Shepherd. The conventional band fit around his swimsuit area just fine. I found it very difficult to fit this harness around my dog & adjust it the first time, first of all because his fur is very long, and secondly because he can't stand up on his own for more than a couple minutes. It took me about 45 minutes and a lot of bad words. However, once the adjustments were complete, the harness is very helpful for both the dog and me, and I believe he finds it comfortable. I would highly recommend planning ahead & buying a harness like this before it's needed, so you can fit it to your dog while he's still well enough to cooperate.

FITS True to size and weight. I even had to make it smaller by adjusting the straps. I have an Elderly Great Dane weighing @ 160lbs.
As dropped weight due loss of muscle and strength on his back legs. So this harness is perfect to help him get up.

Such a blessing!

This harness is a blessing for our Great Dane. He is almost 12 yo and is suffering from a spinal cord injury. He has limited mobility in his back legs. The harness has given us the ability to navigate life with him in a better, safer way.
